Burns, Trauma and Critical Care Research Centre

Major burn injuries are among the most devastating injuries that humans endure. Patients need the combined medical expertise of burns, intensive care and trauma units to help them stay alive and recover well. The Burns, Trauma and Critical Care Research Centre (BTCCRC) was formally established on 1 July 2004 in response to the devastation of the Bali bombings. It began as a collaborative venture between the RBWH Burns and Intensive Care Units, the University of Queensland and the RBWH Foundation and has since incorporated the Departments of Anaesthesia and Emergency Medicine.

The multidisciplinary expertise and collaboration found within our research centre places us in a coveted position to undertake and succeed in cutting edge research. Our laboratory research is closely allied with our clinical research. The major themes developing within the centre are:

The BTCCRC is committed to further advancing and improving the level of treatment and care given to burns and critically ill patients through world-class and research-based practice. Our aim is to improve the survival and health outcomes of critically ill patients by conduction high quality research into the areas of burns, trauma, critical care, emergency medicine and anaesthesia.
