The Centre for Clinical Nursing (CCN) is the principal support service for nurse clinicians at the RBWH. The Centre operates in partnership with Queensland University of Technology and is the location for the Chair in Clinical Nursing. Our aim is to support a nursing workforce that is able to practise nursing competently and creatively and engage in the generation, application and evaluation of evidence based practice and learning to achieve a high quality patient centred nursing service.
There are two distinct Units in the Centre each focused on one specific aspect of our service.
The Nursing Research and Development Unit facilitates and supports a culture of evidence based practice in nursing. Experienced researchers in the Unit work with nurse clinicians and clinical teams to support:
The Clinical Research and Development Unit is also an important resource for nursing at RBWH to develop and test innovative approaches to nursing roles and practice activities including advanced practice nursing and nurse practitioner roles.
The Education Unit is designed to develop and support a culture of continuous learning and enquiry that values education and professional ongoing learning. This unit aims to provide workforce and professional practice development services for nursing staff to facilitate the achievement of best practice patient outcomes. The unit also supports undergraduate, post-graduate students, re-entry, refresher and new and continuing nursing employees to transition effectively into the healthcare and work unit environments.
The Education Unit liaises with nursing leadership at RBWH, Queensland Health and relevant external consumers to provide educational services that are proactive and responsive to the personal, professional and organisational development needs of nurses.
The RBWH is a teaching hospital of Queensland University of Technology and the Centre for Clinical Nursing operates in partnership with the university. The Centre is also the location for the Chair in Clinical Nursing, a joint appointment between the two institutions. Teaching and research staff in the Centre all have adjunct appointments in the Universities Faculty of Health. Consistent with this strategic alliance, we collaborate with academic staff in providing career planning and linkage with QUT advanced and specialist clinical nursing courses and research training programs.
