The RBWH Foundation key purpose is to raise money to fund world-class clinical research conducted at the hospital, in order to provide better treatment methods and improve patient outcomes.

The Foundation is based at the hospital and was first established in 1985 , it is still the main charity associated with the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital (RBWH).

The RBWH Foundation provides ongoing financial support to the RBWH's five key research centres, along with issuing grants to support new and emerging studies across a range of medical conditions. These five research centres are:

The secondary purpose is to engage and educate the community about the research and its importance to the current and future health of all Queenslanders. We believe that research is the key to improving patient care, medical treatment and survival rates for not just Queenslanders, but patients throughout the world.

Research saves lives everyday, and the next life it saves may be yours.

Clinical research

Clinical research is patient-oriented research. It is research conducted with human subjects in order to answer specific health questions. It's the 'action-end' of the long process of discovery, development and implementation - where real outcomes affect real patients.

The aim of clinical research is to discover the causes of human diseases, to find the treatments that work in people and to uncover new ways to improve health. It also endeavours to determine how diseases can be prevented in the first place.

Because of the many and varied cases that present at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital each day, we are in the ideal position to conduct research into a range of health issues effecting men, women and babies. Many other hospitals do not have the size, scope and access to patient numbers to enable them the same research opportunity.

Donations and bequests

As the RBWH Foundation does not receive any Government funding, we rely on generous donations from individuals, community groups and businesses in order to continue supporting the life-saving research conducted at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Every donation, whether large or small, is an investment in the health and wellbeing of Queenslanders, both now and in the future.

A bequest is a gift that is made through a person's last Will and Testament. It can be relatively small or quite large. It can either be a gift of cash, a percentage of an estate, property or shares.

Whatever the size or form your bequest takes, it will make a difference to the health and wellbeing of the Queenslanders and people throughout the world that benefit from the research undertaken at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.
