Burns

The Professor Stuart Pegg Adult Burns Unit is a major referral centre for Queensland, Northern New South Wales, Northern Territory and the Pacific Islands. The centre is also an information centre for all matters regarding burns injuries.

Facilities and services:

• 24 hour / 7 days a week consultancy service on call.
• The Queensland Skin Bank, an association of the Queensland Blood Bank (funded by the RBWH Foundation from donations) is now actively producing cultured skin for treatment of burn patients.  With increased experience, the department hopes to commence new methods of skin culture and its usage.
  

Early admission of severe burns to a burns unit is essential. Minor burns requiring review may be referred to the Outpatients Department or to the Private Practice Specialist Suite.
