Gastroenterology and Hepatology
The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Department offers specialised consultation and procedures to patients with gastrointestinal and liver diseases, with the exception of liver transplantation.
The department provides care to patients in the Brisbane and central Queensland areas.
Facilities and Services:

Home Total Parenteral Nutrition is offered for patients with intestinal failure. Small bowel transplantation has not yet reached the stage of regular clinical use and home total parenteral option is the only option for patients unable to maintain their nutrition morally.

A Hepatitis Management Clinic and dedicated Hepatitis C nurse.

An Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinic provides specialised ongoing care for patients with these chronic illnesses.

Therapeutic endoscopy is available. This includes the management of difficult gastrointestinal bleeding, ERCP and placement of stents for gastrointestinal malignancies.

Endoscopic and Capsule Ultrasound is also offered.
Urgent Consultation
Urgent consultation or patient transfers may be initiated by contacting one of the three registrars through Telecommunication Services (switchboard). A Consultant is on call after hours and may be contacted via the switchboard.
