Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Unit provides a tertiary referral service to the entire state of Queensland, Northern New South Wales and the Pacific Rim.

The complex nature of the facial region makes consultation and cooperation with surgical specialties often necessary. The specialties include Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery, Otolaryngology Surgery, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology and Head and Neck Cancer Surgery.

Achievements

The Queensland Training Units are coordinated by the director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and supported by specialist consultation supervisors and teams within each accredited hospital.

The Queensland Training Centre supports clinical and related research in the areas if Maxillofacial trauma, Oral and Maxillofacial Head and Neck Oncology and new Endoscopically assisted Maxillofacial surgical techniques.

The combined Queensland wide Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Units coordinated through the state hub located at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital has developed into a highly recognised surgical network servicing the Queensland community with a service and training complex which is the benchmark for Australia.
