Rehabilitation Engineering Centre
Rehabilitation Engineering uses engineering principles and skills and knowledge of health science to create effective technology solutions to assist people with disabilities.
The Department can provide a range of rehabilitation engineering services to inpatients and community-based clients, including information about assistive technology, custom design and fabrication of assistive devices.
Rehabilitation Engineering Centre employs three post-graduate qualified, professional engineers and three skilled technicians. Technology solutions will be developed for each client and patient referred for assistance to the extent funding provides for.
Facilities and services:

Wheelchair seating design and fabrication for clients with severe physical disability

Interface Pressure Mapping for clients with tendency for pressure sores

Design and fabrication of custom pressure relief seat cushions and backrests for clients with or susceptible to pressure sores

Customisation of wheelchairs and mobility devices

Custom controls for power wheelchairs and/or positioning of controls for optimum function and performance

Advice on assistive technology options

Advice on vehicular transportation and transportation safety for people with disabilities

Interpretation and application of Australian Standards and ISO standards related to equipment for people with disabilities

Development, design and manufacture or modification of Aids for Daily Living (ADL) (subject to funding)

Inspection and evaluation services for certain medical and rehabilitation equipment.
