Cycling Rules and Signs

While every attempt has been made to issues the accuracy of these resources, they have been complied by the RBWH Cycle Centre and cycle centre members for all cyclists to use and therefore are to by used as useful information only and never to be relied upon as legal advice.

Signs

 No bicycles sign No Bicycles Sign
This sign indicates that there is no riding of bicycles permitted beyond the point of this sign shown. The sign may appear and a posted sign or painted on the ground.
 Bicycle lane sign

Bicycle Lane
This sign indicates that part of the road system is set aside for cyclists. Motorists must give way to cyclists in these lanes and motorists are only allowed to enter the bicycle lane to park, enter or exit a property or turn left.

 Bicycle path only sign Bicycle Path Only
This sign indicates that the path is dedicated to people riding bicycles and wheeled recreational devices only.
 Bicycle shared sign Shared Path
This sign indicates the path can by used by cyclists, pedestrians, wheeled recreational devices including skateboards and rollerblades, as well as micro-electrics that are less than 200 watts and wheelchairs. All cyclists must give way to to pedestrians and people using a wheeled recreational device must give way to cyclists and predestrians.
 Bicycle separated path sign
Separated Path
This sign indicates that one side of the path is dedicated for cyclists, wheeled recreational devices and micro-electrics that are less than 200 watts. The other side of the path is dedicated to pedestrians. Wheelchairs may use either side of the path.
 Bicycle awareness zone sign Bicycle Awareness Zone
This symbol is to increase the awareness of the presence of cyclists on the road. The symbol is marked on the road and indicates to cyclists that it is not a dedicated bicycle lane and they must shared the road with other motorists.
