Our executive team

 

Dr Peter Steer, Chief Executive Officer
The Royal Children's Hospital is managed by Children's Health Services, which is headed by paediatrician and neonatologist Dr Peter Steer.

A medical graduate of the University of Queensland, Peter undertook his training in paediatrics in Brisbane, sub-specialty training in neonatology in New Zealand, and completed a two-year fellowship in Canada.

While in Canada, Peter held positions as the chief of paediatrics at McMaster Children's Hospital and St. Joseph's Healthcare in Hamilton, and professor and chair of the Academic Department of Paediatrics at McMaster University.

Ms Sue McKee, A/Chief Operating Officer
Sue has extensive executive experience, nursing leadership and service management expertise in both the public and private sectors. Prior to her appointment to Children's Health Services, Sue was the nursing director of paediatric services at the Mater Children's Hospital.

Dr David Slaughter, Executive Director Medical Services
David was appointed executive director of medical services at the RCH in 2005. Prior to his appointment, he practised as a visiting medical officer at the hospital for 24 years.

David holds a Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor of Medicine awarded by the University of Queensland in 1969. He is a general paediatrician with substantial neonatal practice. He became a fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physicians in 1981.

Dr Lynne McKinlay, Director of Rehabilitation Services
Lynne oversees rehabilitation services which consists of a range of statewide services, including the Queensland Paediatric Rehabilitation Service, the Queensland Cerebral Palsy Health Service and the Queensland Children's Gait Laboratory.

Lynne's clinical interests include acquired brain injury in childhood, cerebral palsy andchildhood limb deficiency and amputation.

Dr Ross Walker, Executive Director Division of Surgery
Rosslyn is a graduate of the University of Queensland Medical School and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the speciality of paediatric surgery. She has provided surgical care to Queensland neonates and children for over 30 years, supporting the introduction of innovative techniques and contributing to surgical training as a former RACS board member for paediatric surgery.

Within a wide range of clinical experience, Ross continues a special interest in vascular anomalies and paediatric burns care, as well as research in to rare neonatal hyperinsulinism. Closely involved in activities of national and international paediatric surgery associations, Ross strongly supports delivery of evidence-based services in all surgical specialties for children.

Ms Helen Woolett, Executive Director Nursing  
Helen has 30 years experience in a range of health care roles. She completed paediatric and child health studies early in her nursing career before going on to complete a Masters in Health Care Planning and Post Graduate Diploma in Psychology.

Helen's interest is developing nursing practice and implementing strategies to energise and build capacity within the workforce.

Helen holds an Adjunct Associate Professor appointment withe the School of Nursing QUT.

Ms Jennifer Crimmins, Executive Director Clinical Support Services Division
Jennifer was appointed to the role of Executive Director, Division of Clinical Support and Allied Health in May 2010 following more that 17 years practising as a psychologist in both the public and private sectors.

Jennifer's past roles have inlcuding working as a psychologist with the Queensland Police Service, Child and Youth Mental Health Services and the Child Protection Service with Community Child Health Services.

Dr Neil Wigg, Executive Director Community Child Health 
Neil is a graduate of the University of Tasmania medical school, and undertook his paediatric training in News Zealand and the USA where he specialised in the care of children and young people with developmental disorders. He has a special interest in child public health and has been involved in state and national child health policy development, and was awarded a Masters of Policy and Administration in 1992.

Neil is currently president of the Paediatrics and Child Health Division, Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Ms Sue Leggate, Executive Director Corporate Services 
Sue has over 25 years experience in Queensland Health, all within corporate services, and has worked as a director of corporate services for the Redland, Wynnum, Gold Coast and Logan hospitals.

In her role as executive director of corporate services at the RCH, Sue oversees the division of corporate services. This division supports clinical service delivery through the provision of operational support services, administrative services, building and maintenance services, clincial equipment and consumables, information technology and health information management services.

Mr Alan Fletcher, Chief Finance Officer
Alan has more than 20 years public sector financial management experience in the health care industry.

As the chief finance officer for Children's Health Services, including the Royal Children's Hospital.

Alan is responsible for leading the organisation's integrated framework of effective and efficient financial and resource management, financial governance and risk management, and performance and accountability.

Mr David Rose, Director Communications and Engagement
David joined the Children's Health Services as director of communications and engagement in January 2011.
David trained as a journalist in the UK, working as a reporter with daily newspapers and BBC radio. He moved to Australia in 1995, and has since lived and worked in Sydney, Hobart, Cairns, Canberra and Brisbane.

His previous communications roles have included the head of communications for the British High Commission in Canberra and general manager of communications and stakeholder management with the Federal Department of Infrastructure and Transport.
