The RCH not only cares about children and young people, but also their parents and families. We are driven by the core value of family centred care.
The basic principles behind family centred care are:
RCH staff are trained to work with families/carers and kinship groups to ensure feedback from family members is listened to and taken into account in decision making, family members are kept informed about treatment options and goals, have ready access to health records and are provided information in a format they can understand and use in their decision making.
In order for families/carers and kinship groups to be an active partner in the care of their child, we recognise the need for families to have a say in meeting times and locations and accommodate this need to our best ability.
We encourage family members, carers and kinship groups to see themselves as an equal member of the child's health care team, to participate actively in setting goals and developing a service plan, and to express their wants, needs, ideal and the goals of the family as a whole.
Please talk to our staff if you would like to know more about family centred care.
