CYMHS Service
The Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) provides specialist mental health services for children and young people.

CYMHS combines hospital and community-based facilities to provide free consultation, assessment and treatment of children and young people experiencing serious mental health disorders and problems. 

CYMHS provides services to children and young people for a range of mental health conditions which may include:

• depression
• anxiety
• suicidal or self harming behaviour
• eating disorders
• psychosis
• trauma and
• severe family relationship difficulties.

CYMHS uses a case management and therapy model to tailor treatment plans to the needs of each client/patient.

Eligibility for services is a clinical decision that considers the

• psychiatric nature of the disorder
• severity of disturbance
• complexity of condition (including co-morbidity)
• extent of functional impairment and
• level of distress in the child, young person and/or family.
