About the Department
The Royal Children’s Hospital Department of Medical Imaging is a completely digital facility, including Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) and Computerised Radiography (CR). The Department is staffed by specialist paediatric trained medical and other professional personnel and has undergone significant growth in the past 2 years. New senior radiographer positions for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Computerised Tomography and Ultrasound were created in 2005 - 2006. There were also 2 further positions created for Magnetic Resonance Imaging in 2005-2006.
The Department provides 24 hour service and prompt 100% radiology reporting of all examinations. Approximately 26,000 examinations are performed each year.
The Department of Medical Imaging has some of the most advanced technology of its kind in the world presented in a very child friendly environment.

Nuclear medicine is available at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (telephone: 07 3636 8111).
Our paediatric trained radiology staff are available for consultation.
Research
Research projects currently underway include functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging scanning and Computerised Tomography paediatric radiation dose reduction.

Children up to 16 years of age together with continuing or former patients of the hospital may be referred.
Medical practitioners refer patients to this service.

Consultants, fees and clinic times:
Most scans covered by a specialist provider number are bulk billed with no out of pocket expenses being incurred.
All consultants bulk bill.
Clinic times are by arrangement with Medical Imaging Private Practice.
