CYMHS Community Clinics
Specialist mental health services for children and young people up to 18 years of age are available through CYMHS community clinics in North Brisbane:
Treatment plans use intervention methods such as:
Referrals to community teams can be made by contacting the local CYMHS clinic which covers the catchment area where the potential client lives. An Access Team manages all new enquiries and referrals. Access Clinicians, located at each CYMHS community site, are available to assist week days, 8.30am to 5.00pm. Access Clinicians, located at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, are available to assist after-hours 5.00pm to 9.30pm. They are also available Saturday 2.00pm to 9.30 pm.
It is preferable that referrals are made via a referral agent such as a General Practitioner, Guidance Officer, Youth Worker, or other health, community and government service provider who has made an initial assessment of the problems or have established ongoing links with the child, young people and their family. Referral agents remain involved and contribute to management plans.
Young people can self-refer. A referral agent is also not necessary where a situation is deemed urgent.
Urgent Referrals: Priority will be given to suicidal, psychotic, severely disturbed and traumatised children and young people whose behaviour is causing, or likely to cause, a significant risk of harm to self or others. URGENT referrals will be responded to within 24 hours.
