Paediatric Trauma Service

Service

The Children's Health Services is currently designated as a Paediatric Major Trauma Service for Queensland. The Paediatric Trauma Service was established in 2008 following the endorsement of 'A Trauma Plan for Queensland' in 2007. The RCH is currently a level 6 tertiary hospital which cares for patients from throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales.

The Paediatric Trauma Service coordinates the management of injured children by working collaboratively and in conjunction with all the various disciplines in the Royal Children's Hospital to promote and provide optimal trauma care.

The Trauma service provides a consultancy service to all trauma patients (admitted for more than 24 hours) and their families, and provides a liaison service between the multidisciplinary teams and the allied health professionals.

It coordinates the care of approximately 500 trauma admissions (of greater than 24 hours) each year.

The Paediatric Trauma Service takes a leadership role in trauma prevention, education, data collection and research.
