A steady increase in the number of medical students and junior doctors expressing an interest in pursuing a career as a Rural Generalist, demonstrates the ever increasing popularity of the training pathway. It is the intention of the Rural Generalist Pathway to ensure our trainees are provided with continuing professional support in order to encourage a more informed and prepared future generation of doctors.
The main aim of providing mentors for our current and potential trainees is to:
inform and enthuse trainees about the rewarding career pathway in Rural Generalist Medicine;
provide trainees with an understanding of the holistic approach to health care in a rural setting through the support of the many diverse professionals that encompass the rural health team;
provide trainees with insight into living in a rural community as a health professional and maintaining their own health;
create an opportunity for trainees, where possible, to share experiences, reflect, seek advice or discuss sensitive issues without prejudice;
support trainees through their training pathway to a successful career as a Rural Generalist in a rural and remote community of Queensland.
If you would like to register your interest in becoming a mentor for Rural Generalist Trainees, please email the Rural Generalist Pathway Team via the Contact Us page.
