School Based Vaccination Program

Coordinated by Queensland Health, the School Based Vaccination Program provides parents with the opportunity to have their children vaccinated against a number of diseases through their school. The National Health and Medical Research Council recommends various vaccines for children of secondary school age to protect them through to adulthood. The Program operates in all state and non state schools. Each year, Queensland Health will offer the following vaccines to all Year 8 and 10 students.

Year 8 students

Year 10 students

In 2007 and 2008, the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine was offered as a “catchup” vaccination program for female students in Years 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 to protect against cervical cancer. From 2009 onwards, HPV vaccination will be offered to female Year 8 students as part of the routine school vaccination program.
