Welcome to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital Project

We’re building a new $1.57 billion, 450 overnight bed tertiary level hospital opening on the Sunshine Coast in 2016, which will be the centre piece of a wider health campus at Kawana.

The hospital will be a world class tertiary facility offering the community a higher level of more complex services than ever before.

The new Sunshine Coast University Hospital will be a teaching and research facility, working together with educational facilities in the area to create an active learning environment.

The hospital will be built on a 20 hectare greenfield site at Kawana, located adjacent to planned retail, residential and commercial developments.

We chose this site because of its close proximity to the Kawana Town Centre and it will be easily accessible by a range of different transport modes and there is also room for future expansion and growth.

Another important part of the project is the early development of a private hospital on the Kawana campus, which is planned to open in 2013.

We plan to purchase 70 public beds from the new private hospital in 2013, growing to 110 by the end of the following year.

This will provide additional capacity and allow us to develop our services to treat more residents closer to home.

The project is one part of a major expansion of Sunshine Coast health services to meet the future health care needs of a growing region and its people.
