Public Private Partnership (PPP) delivery

Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) is Queensland's first public hospital PPP and is being delivered by Exemplar Health.

PPPs have been being used by governments all over the world to deliver large social infrastructure projects such as hospitals, schools and roads.

PPP stands for Public Private Partnership and involves a private sector consortium (usually a builder, facilities management provider and financier) in the design, build, financing and maintenance of the hospital. The SCUH PPP also includes security, pest control, grounds maintenance and car parking in its scope.

The SCUH PPP contract is for a period of 25 years from late 2016 when the hospital opens. The contract requires the facilities to be maintained to a high standard throughout the 25 year contract term and enables clinicians and hospital management to focus on the needs of patients while the PPP provider focuses on managing the built environment.
