Public Private Partnership (PPP) delivery

The PPP delivery of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital will see Queensland Health enter in to a long term contract with the private sector.

This project is Queensland’s first public hospital PPP. The PPP model will see Queensland Health enter into a 25 year contract with a private consortium to design, finance, build and maintain the hospital. Expressions of Interest from private consortia to build the new public hospital were called on 13 April 2011.

PPPs have been being used by governments all over the world to deliver large social infrastructure projects such as hospitals, schools and roads.

The PPP will see Queensland Health lease the maintained buildings from the private sector and provide all the medical services, the doctors and nurses, the catering and cleaning of the hospital.

The PPP consortium will be responsible for maintaining the facilities to a very high standard for the life of the contract.
