In addition, health services will be improved for children in the emergency department and facilities will be enhanced for people accessing ear nose and throat services in the outpatients department.
icon The Ipswich Hospital can provide financial assistance through the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme to eligible patients who need to travel away to other health services for procedure and tests not available locally.

Services available

Ipswich Hospital is a major acute hospital with 341 beds and situated 40 kilometres west of Brisbane. The hospital offers services in all major health specialities, including anaesthetics, emergency medicine, medicine, surgery, intensive and coronary care, orthopaedics, obstetrics, paediatrics, palliative care and rehabilitation along with a full range of allied health services.

Ipswich Hospital has a major teaching role, providing both undergraduate and postgraduate clinical education and training.

Ipswich Hospital Expansion

The Ipswich Hospital Expansion Project will transform the existing hospital into a new, expanded facility, offering quality and timely health services to the region. The Queensland Government have committed capital funds totalling $122 million to accommodate an additional 84 beds and associated facilities / services at the Ipswich Hospital from 2011 to 2014.

State and Commonwealth Governments have also committed $6.7 million of capital funding to Ipswich Hospital to enhance its existing services for children, including 12 emergency treatment spaces, six short stay beds and a separate child-friendly waiting area for families that will be supported by a team of staff with specialist skills in childrens health.
