Employee Benefits

These are some benefits that you are entitled to if you are employed by Queensland Health.

Pay Scales
Each profession has a different award structure that determines the pay level you will receive.

Shift Allowances
Shift allowances are provided for staff required to work evening shifts (15%) and provide an on-call service (2 hours at double time).

Salary Sacrificing Options
Queensland Health employees working in a clinical environment can now access attractive salary packaging arrangements which provide a Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) exemption, on items that normally attract FBT, of up to AUD$17,000 grossed up per annum. This allows you to deduct some of your pre tax income to pay for benefits such as, mortgage repayments, car parking, and many other items usually subject to FBT from your pre- taxed income reducing the amount of tax you are required to pay. By reducing your pre tax income you can reduce the amount of income tax you pay and increase the amount you take home each fortnight (approximately AUD$4500 after tax per annum).

Superannuation
The Queensland Government will contribute to your superannuation scheme up to 12.5 per cent of your annual salary. Personal contributions may vary between two and five per cent.

Cumulative Sick Leave
Queensland Health employees are entitled to 10 working days' sick leave, with a cumulative balance. Part-time employees accrue at a pro rata rate.

Annual Leave
Professionals employed in Queensland Health public hospitals are entitled to four to five weeks recreation leave per year. Part Time staff accrue annual leave at a prorata rate. Queensland Health pays a generous leave loading of 17.5% on four weeks of your entitled recreation leave. Queensland Health employees are entitled to 10 working days' sick leave, with a cumulative balance. Part-time employees accrue at a pro rata rate.

Parental Leave
Up to 52 weeks maternity/adoption leave can be taken by permanent Queensland Health employees, with temporary employees entitled to leave calculated relative to their end-date of employment. Six weeks' paid maternity/adoption leave, able to be taken as 12 weeks half-pay, is available for staff who have been employed by Queensland Health for a continuous period of 12 months. In addition, spousal leave of up to one week on full pay is available to eligible employees.

Study Leave Contributions
Queensland Health's Study and Research Assistance Scheme (SARAS) is designed to help employees who are pursuing courses of study or research projects. Staff are eligible for SARAS assistance if the course of study or research undertaken helps them to perform their job better, or if it generally contributes to the achievement of the department's goals.
