Do I need to read everything on the website?
How long should it take to read?
How will my university or TAFE placement co-ordinator know that I have looked at the site?
Is there anything I need to follow up when I get to my placement?
What happens when I have another placement at a Queensland Health facility?
Do interstate and overseas students on placement have to read this?
What do I do if I want to find out more information?
Can I get access to the Queensland Health computer network whilst on placement?
No. Only the essentials are mandatory to cover prior to your visit. These are six sections to review;
The other sections include topics such as the organisational structure, health care goals, rural information and other Queensland Health services, as well as travel and accommodation information. This is included to round out your orientation and meet other questions you may have when planning and preparing for your placement.
If you spend about 15 minutes per section in the ‘essential placement requirements’ section, it should take you up to an hour to cover all you need to know. Of course, if you want to spend longer, that is ok too.
You will need to print the checklist page (PDF 149kb). This contains a list of the essential topics to cover. There is also a section for you to sign and date. Once you feel you have covered and understand all of the information, present this to your supervisor before you go on your placement. This form will also need to be presented to your Queensland Health Clinical Supervisor when you first attend placement.
Yes. This site contains a lot of theory and background information. Some things you need to know are much more practical, specialised or specific to your course. You should be orientated to your placement facility when you arrive. Some of you may also receive some orientation specific to your profession.
If you come back in the same year we recommend that you check the updates section on the site for any new information. There is no need to re-complete the checklist or for your university or TAFE to collect this unless the checklist has changed and is in the Update section.
If you come back a different year it is a requirement that you re-read the essential placement requirements, but there is no need to provide a signed checklist to your university or TAFE unless the checklist has changed.
Yes. It is a requirement of all students attending a clinical placement in Queensland Health to review the essentials placement requirements on this website.
The first port of call should be the Queensland Health website. www.health.qld.gov.au. If you are unable to find the information you need, check with your university supervisor or fieldwork coordinator.
Yes. If you meet Queensland Health's criteria for a student on placement then you will be allowed to apply for access to Queensland Health's computer network. Information concerning how to apply should be provided during placement orientation. If you are unsure if you require access or need more information then you should speak to your university supervisor of fieldwork coordinator.
