Bangkok charter
The Bangkok Charter for Health Promotion in a Globalized World was passed at the 6th Global Conference on Health Promotion, held in Bangkok in August 2005. The Charter builds on the basic principles of the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion [38], which was developed at the 1st International Conference on Health Promotion held in Ottawa, Canada in 1986.
The Bangkok Charter identifies a series of actions required by all sectors and settings. These required actions include:

advocate for health based on human rights and solidarity

invest in sustainable policies, actions and infrastructure to address the determinants of health

build capacity for policy development, leadership, health promotion practice, knowledge transfer, research and health literacy

regulate and legislate to ensure a high level of protection from harm and enable equal opportunity for health and well-being for all people

partner and build alliances with public, private, nongovernmental and international organisations and civil society to create sustainable actions [
69].
The Bangkok Charter also calls for a series of key commitments around health promotion, including making it:

central to the global development agenda

a core responsibility for all of government

a key focus of communities and civil society

a requirement for good corporate practice [
69].
