Toolkit Phase 1 - Materials

These materials are resources to help you to investigate more about the problem and answer questions outlined in Phase 1 of the Toolkit.

Collecting information

You can collect information from key stakeholders and the community in many ways. There is no one place to find all the data you will need to give you a full picture of the older population, how many people fall, the number of injuries and other social issues in your community. This section provides information on data collection methods such as surveys, focus groups, interviews, community forums and statistics.

Fear of falling

The fear of falling is an important health issue that needs to be carefully considered as it can prevent people from undertaking activities that would help to keep them active and mobile.

Risk factors

A risk factor is something that increases your chance of falling [114]. There are a number of risk factors associated with falls. Risk factors can be identified at a community level using a risk awareness tool or at an individual level using risk screening tools.

Key documents

Whatever you decide to do to address falls prevention, your strategy will be influenced by and may need to align with what is currently happening internationally, nationally and within the state. There are many key documents you can refer to.

Community stocktake

The Queensland Stay on Your Feet® Wide Bay/Burnett trial project used a community stocktake to determine the existing types of products and services in the community.
