Early Childhood

Centres/Family Day Care

Centres and Family Day Care offer good environments for skin cancer prevention to occur. Centres can join the SunSmart Early Childhood Centre program by contacting the Cancer Council Queensland Helpline on tollfree phone 13 11 20.

This program awards Centres who

• implement a sun protection policy
• avoid the peak ultraviolet radiation time outside
• include shade in the early childhood centre environment
• include sun safe learning activities for children
• encourage positive role modelling of centre staff and visiting parents and
• use personal protection practices – clothing recommendations, sun safe hats, and sunscreen use.

Sun Protection in Queensland Early Childhood Services is a brochure designed to update and inform early childhood services about preventing skin cancer.
