Advances towards a SunSmart state - from research to practice.
A skin cancer prevention and early detection Forum was held in Brisbane, Queensland on Monday 30th October to Wednesday 1st November 2006.
Advances towards a SunSmart State Forum (2006)
In late 2006, Queensland Health together with the Queensland Cancer Fund held a three day Advances towards a SunSmart State Forum to obtain a better understanding of the research, policy and practice developments occurring across key settings (early childhood, schools, workplaces and the community) in relation to skin cancer prevention and early detection.
Why was the Forum held?
The Forum was designed to encourage collaboration between key stakeholders in Queensland skin cancer prevention and enable a commitment to the best way forward.
Who attended?
Approximately 200 stakeholders from a range of government, private and community sectors including researchers, policy makers and practitioners attended the Forum. Attendees included representatives from state and local government, health (eg. dermatologists) and the education, sport and recreation, child care and workplace health and safety sectors.
Forum workshop reports
Reports were prepared to document the outcomes of workshops held during the Forum to discuss key settings for skin cancer prevention and plan future directions. These reports can be accessed below.
Outcomes of the Forum
Since the Forum, the workshop reports have been used by an intersectoral skin cancer prevention working group established by the Queensland Public Health Forum to inform the development of a new strategic direction for skin cancer prevention in Queensland. Once developed, this will replace the Queensland Skin Cancer Prevention Strategic Plan 2001 - 2005.
