Workplaces

Image of two men at a construction siteUnder the Workplace Health and Safety Act 1995, workplaces have a duty of care to ensure their workers are not being exposed to ultraviolet radiation while working outdoors. Employees also have a responsibility to reduce the risk to overexposure from ultraviolet radiation.

Minimise your risk of skin cancer - a kit for outdoor worksites has been developed by Queensland Health, the Department of Industrial Relations and the Queensland Cancer Fund. Resources are specific for outdoor workers and includes Sun Safety and Clothing fact sheet, Sun Safety and Sunscreen fact sheet, and Are you protected from the sun? brochure.

To protect workers, workplaces are encouraged to have a written and implemented sun safe policy that incorporates time of day, shade, clothing, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen recommendations.
