Are waiting lists audited?
Response:
It is a Queensland Health requirement that elective surgery waiting lists are audited on a regular basis. Postal and telephone audits are conducted across all Queensland Health hospitals on at least a 12 monthly basis to review elective surgery waiting lists and ensure that the lists provide an accurate reflection of the actual number of patients waiting for elective surgery. In addition, clinical audits are carried out to ensure that patients are treated according to clinical priority and need.
Who should I contact at a facility regarding the elective surgery program?
Response:
Each of the elective surgery reporting hospitals have either an elective surgery coordinator or an elective surgery liaison officer. The coordinators and liaison officers liaise and consult with key personnel to support and develop hospital-based strategies to enhance elective surgery services. The coordinators and liaison officers also contribute in a coordinated state-wide approach to achieve the goals of the Government's Waiting List Reduction Strategy. Additionally the Queensland Health Executive has instructed that either medical superintendents or directors of surgery are responsible for the elective surgery performance of their facility.
