What to do if a patient is not satisfied with their waiting time

If the condition of the patient has deteriorated, your general practitioner may be able to discuss your situation with your specialist or alternatively refer you back to your specialist for a reassessment of your condition.

Patients should not hesitate to discuss changes in their situation with their general practitioner. Your GP may also be able to refer you to a specialist in a facility with a shorter waiting list.

Many facilities in Queensland Health have an elective surgery coordinator. Your coordinator may also provide additional advice as to an appropriate course of action.

Patients with an appropriate level of private health insurance or the ability to pay may consider having their condition treated in a private facility. Your GP will be able to refer you to a specialist should you wish to pursue this option. It is advisable to discuss all fees you may incur with your specialist.
