Why am I Waiting?

People who are admitted to public hospitals in Queensland are classified as either emergency or elective. Emergency patients are classified as requiring treatment within 24 hours. If an admitting doctor determines that a condition does not require emergency treatment, the patient may be placed on a register, a hospital waiting list, for treatment at some time in the future. The doctor will then prioritise the patients on the list to ensure that more urgent patients are treated first.
