Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 (Human Swine Influenza)

Information for Parents, Schools and Child Care Centres

On this page:

Queensland, and all other states and territories, are being guided in the response to Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 by the Australian Health Management Plan for Pandemic Influenza. The response has now entered the Protect Phase when the “closure of educational facilities, boarding schools and child care centres is, in general, not recommended.”

School exclusions and closures were considered to be a useful measure while the virus was not widespread throughout the rest of the community. This is no longer the case as the virus has now entered all Queensland communities.

Parents and teachers should continue to reinforce the importance of good hygiene practices and encourage students with influenza like illness to stay home.
