About the SZMHES
The SZMHES commenced operation on 12 August 2002 with the appointment of an Acting Director and an agreed upon allocation of resources from the two contributing sites, which included some pre-existing permanent education positions and some temporary positions available for redesign as appropriate.
The original briefing paper defined the purpose of the SZMHES as to;
"ensure that educational resources located in the Zone are effectively used to improve
the content, quality and range of education and training initiatives available to the mental
health workforce in the Southern Zone in the first instance. The range of education and
training initiatives offered by the Zonal service will be accessible to the mental health
workforce across the state of Queensland through a number of mechanisms" (p.1).
