PARTICIPATION IS THE KEY

Consumer Participation
Consumers have a voice in their treatment.

CONSUMERS & SERVICE PROVIDERS IN PARTNERSHIP

Consumers and Service providers work in partnership to achieve the best possible outcomes for consumers. Decisions are made in relation to service delivery and individual care collaboratively between Consumers and Service providers. Consumer involvement and participation occurs at all levels and in all arenas. Special consumer groups (identified in the Ten Year Mental Health Strategy of Queensland) are also recognised appropriately. These groups include:

Consumers and clients can play a pivotal role in shaping service delivery, helping identify 'gaps' in service provision and pro-actively driving specific programs that help empower and destigmatise those with mental illness.

The development of a Consumer Participation Program ensures consumers are not only actively involved in discussions about their treatment but also encourages consumer involvement in The Park- Centre for Mental Health's service planning and management.

ADVOCATING FOR CONSUMERS …Patient & Carer Advisors Group (PCAG)

Consumer advocacy and participation in service delivery, decision-making processes and quality improvement initiatives is a vital feature of the Model of Service Delivery. Consumer advocacy is crucial to ensure the best possible outcomes for consumers, relatives/carers and other stakeholders. The work of the Patient and Carer Advisory Group, our Consumer Advocate and Consumer Consultants help facilitate the management of the Hospital.

Consumer Forums, facilitated by our Consumer Consultant, also provide a peer-driven forum for consumers to discuss issues relating to their time in hospital.

LINKING THE COMMUNITY WITH THE WIDER COMMUNITY

The Park- Centre for Mental Health is seen as a community with clear links to the wider community.

Our links with community organisations and local groups support our focus on rehabilitation and achieving the best health outcomes for our clients.

TO DEVELOP A NETWORK OF CARE

The delivery of mental health services in Queensland is based on the principle of a network of districts providing a range of mental health services. The Park- Centre for Mental Health provides extended inpatient mental health services on a supra-district basis to the following Client Districts:

The clinical partnerships with the client Districts serves to enhance the continuity of care for consumers, and provides valuable integration and mainstreaming opportunities.
