image of cigarette with red cross through it Regular review of the tobacco laws is an essential part of the Government's ongoing efforts to address the smoking problem. The 2007 Review of Smoke-free Laws, running from October 2007 to January 2008, offered the public the opportunity to share their views on the current laws and offer suggestions for possible reforms.

Download the Discussion Paper for more information.

The Review closed on 31 January 2008 and is now complete.

Announced on 26 May 2008, changes to Queensland's laws will ban smoking in cars carrying children under the age of 16 years, and grant councils the power to regulate smoking at malls and at public transport waiting points such as bus stops.
