About Ingham

Ingham is located 110 kilometres north of Townsville, situated in the Herbert River Valley in Tropical North Queensland. Ingham is part of the Hinchinbrook Shire, the area of the shire is approximately 2,869 square kilometres. It services an area north to the Cardwell Range, south to Rollingstone and West to Mount Fox. The population of the Hinchinbrook Shire is approximately 15,522.

The principal Shire economy is rural based, with sugar cane farming being the dominant industry, with cane first being grown around the 1870s. 

This industry employed many South Sea Islanders (Kanakas) and Italian immigrants. 

Employment is provided by the sugar industry, forestry, fishing, agriculture, retail, tourism and government sectors.
