Charters Towers Rehabilitation Unit is a Northern Queensland Tertiary Mental Health Service offering extended care/rehabilitation/dual diagnosis treatment for medium and long stay residents who have long term residual mental health disability. Presently can offer care and treatment to residents that are accommodated within two care units. The hospital is engaged in an integration program that is designed to prepare residents for community living and ongoing long-term care.
The service has undergone a redevelopment phase, which was completed in 2001. The redevelopment plan is focused on the completion of:
- Extended care and rehabilitation/dual diagnosis units, which will target people with a chronic mental disorder, who are unable to maintain themselves in the community with supports from existing local services.
