The Townsville Hospital (TTH) is a tertiary referral hospital located in the suburb of Douglas, Townsville.
Here, we treat patients from across North Queensland, as far north as Cape York Peninsula and the Torres Strait Islands, and west to Mount Isa and the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is also the major teaching hospital for James Cook University's schools of medicine, nursing and allied health and for the Barrier Reef Institute of TAFE.
The Townsville Hospital provides the very latest in cardiac, obstetric, gynaecological, paediatric, neurosurgical, orthopaedic, cancer, mental health, neonatal, allied health, anaesthetic, intensive care services to the community.
Apart from advanced burns treatment and organ transplants there is very little that can't be done right here at The Townsville Hospital. We take care of everyone from the sickest, smallest babies to people needing specialist end-of-life care at the north's only palliative care centre.
We see thousands of patients with injuries from all manner of trauma needing care from our emergency department, ICU, medical and surgical wards.
In July 2011, the hospital's new $94 million North Block opened as the first stage of the $437 million redevelopment project. North Block included the opening of the hospital's new 75 bay emergency department (ED) which is now the biggest ED in Queensland. North Block also includes a 34 bed maternity unit and an expanded intensive care unit.
Redevelopment at The Townsville Hospital continues at a brisk pace and we look forward to expanding our services further to cater to the health care needs of the people of north and north-west Queensland
