R.O.A.D. (Recovery of Attitudes and Dreams) for People Affected by Early Psychosis
Overview
The ROAD program is delivered in partnership by Townsville District Integrated Mental Health Service (TDIMHS) and the Mental Illness Fellowship of North Queensland. (MIFNQ).
ROAD offers:
- Intensive case management and family work
- Doctors clinic
- Young person education and social groups
- Family education groups
To be eligible for a. and b., a person must: -
- be between 15 – 25 years of age
- have a diagnosis of psychosis (or for diagnostic clarification for psychosis)
- have less than 6-month history of treatment for psychosis
To be eligible for c. a person must:
- be between 15 – 25 years of age
- have a diagnosis of psychosis
- have less than 5 year history of treatment for psychosis
- would benefit from socialisation and is willing to participate in groups.
Families can be referred where their relative has a treatment history of less than 5 years for psychosis (age range is not as important). Other programs are available for those with a history of more than five years treatment.
The ROAD program is all about early detection and treatment please help us intervene early!
ROAD services are provided to patients from across the TDIMHS. Group activities take place in the wider Townsville/Thuringowa Community.
Referral Procedure
Referral form completed and sent to Early Psychosis Coordinator (EPC) (for young Person) and MIFNQ (for family).
Individual service plan with comprehensive risk assessment to be sent with referral for any young person referred.
EPC reviews referral and contacts referring agent if more collateral required. EPC will then arrange an appointment with young person to conduct initial interview. If accepted the patient will be advised of services available, if not will be provided with information on more relevant service.
MIFNQ receives family referral – makes phone contact with family and conducts family questionnaire. If accepted the family is advised of the next program and support offered as required (individual support in meantime). If the family is not suitable, they will be referred to other MIFNQ programs (eg. Well Ways).
How to make an appointment:
Appointments can only be made by EPC initially, after referral has been accepted.
