Perioperative
Nine Elective theatres staffed 8am - 6pm covering the following specialties
ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology, ENT, general, plastics, urology, cardio
thoracics, neurosurgery, FMX, paediatrics, vascular and orthopaedics.
1 x 24 hour emergency 'Fastrack' service for all specialties.
theere are approximately 6000-plus elective operations per year and 2500 plus Fastrack
operations.
Anaesthetic nurses also cover those outlying areas where an anaesthetist is required.
The Post Anaesthetic Acute Unit (PACU) also provides a service for patients post-MRI
and some endoscopy clients.
Patients are referred to the unit from admitting wards, emergency department and
specialist clinics via the Day Surgery Unit. There is no direct referral to the unit
