Ostomy - Include pre and post-operative education and counselling for patients and their relatives, ensuring their understanding of the proposed stoma surgery, and ongoing stoma management. Liaison to North Queensland Ostomy Association and Crohns and Colitis Association.
Wound Care - wound assessment and advice re treatment options following modern wound care management.
Any patient about to have surgery which may result in the creation of an abdominal stoma should be referred to the Stomal therapist.
Referrals may be telephoned or written. Appointments are made as soon as required.
Inpatients per phone or written and are seen that same day if required.
Outpatients are seen by appointment but also whenever necessary.
