BreastScreen

Overview

BreastScreen Queensland Townsville Service provides quality FREE breast-cancer screening services throughout the Townsville and Mount Isa Health Service Districts, and the Bowen and Collinsville communities of the Mackay Health Service District.

The main facility is based at The Townsville Hospital while a satellite service is located at Kirwan Health Campus. A mobile service visits the following areas on a one or two-yearly basis:


We provide:

  1. High quality breast cancer screening for eligible women (aged 40 years and over)
  2. Recall and follow-up assessment and referral to specialists
  3. Information, support, health education and counselling
  4. A speaker for community groups on breast-cancer awareness and breast-cancer screening services
  5. After hours screening for working women

Referral Process

Clients are encouraged to self-refer. Referrals may also be via GPs, health care workers and clinics. Women aged 40 and over are eligible. The service primarily targets women aged 50 to 69 years. 'Early detection is your best protection'. Please encourage your partner, family or friends to have a breast screen. Around one in 11 Australia women will develop breast cancer at some stage in their lives. Seventy per cent of breast cancers occur in women over the age of 50.
