Medical Imaging, X-ray, CT, Ultrasound, MRI, Nuclear Medicine

Overview

The Medical Imaging Department provides imaging and specialist radiological services for the Townsville District and more broadly the North Queensland area.

The Medical Imaging facilities & capability support The Townsville Hospital as a tertiary referral hospital and include - X-ray; CT; MRI; Ultrasound; Interventional procedures & Angiography. The service also incorporates Nuclear Medicine capability with two Gamma cameras.

As a northern hub for radiological services we have, links allowing the digital transfer of images & results to and from all facilities in the district. All imaging records (Images & reports) are managed in digital form (PACS) across the TTH Campus. Digital information is transferable, for review, to other Queensland Health facilities (via network) or  on CD to non-QH sites. Viewing of images & reports is possible via web based applications & on normal PC's.

Referring clinicians are supported by clinical reporting, an extensive clinical meeting program and by availability of key staff for case by case consultation. Staff specialists provide a comprehensive coverage of radiology skills  commensurate with the tertiary servicves offered. TTH Medical Imaging provides specific training for radiology registrars and  Health practioners (radiographers; sonographers & Nuclear medicine technologists).

The department is organised into four clinical sections with each being supported by coordinated reception and nursing staff. -

     1.  Specialist modalities - (MRI; CT Scan; Interventional Radiology)
     2.  General radiography /Computed radiography
     3.  Ultrasound
     4.  Nuclear Medicine

Specific imaging recovery/day beds are located within the service for radiology "day procedure" patients.

All Imaging modalities are supported by a multidisciplinary team working to maintain best practice models of care.

The Service operates 24 hours, seven days a week for emergency imaging. Routine imaging services are available from 8:00AM to 5:00PM Monday to Friday.
