Neonatal intensive and special care for ill babies with medical and surgical problems is provided through our neonatal unit. The neonatal unit aims to provide family centered care by providing parents with optimal opportunities to promote and support their infant throughout the hospital stay in partnership with the neonatal multidisciplinary team. Redevelopment is currently underway to upgrade the unit’s size and provide a more comfortable family friendly environment.
The neonatal unit provides level 6 tertiary care and operates a neonatal retrieval service for Northern Queensland. The neonatal unit is comprised of staff from numerous professional streams who are dedicated to working toward optimal outcomes for babies and their families. All high risk graduates from the neonatal unit are followed up by a multidisciplinary growth and development team.
