The Townsville Hospital pathology department is the largest and most complex diagnostic laboratory in tropical Australia. Our specialised service belongs to a network of 34 standardised laboratories known as Pathology Queensland.
Our laboratories are National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and Royal College of Pathologists of Australia (RCPA) accredited and International Organisation for Standardisation ISO 9000:2000 certified. Pathology Queensland is the oldest state-wide pathology service in Australia.
Our staff of one hundred includes six pathologists, three registrars, 59 qualified health practitioners, 33 laboratory assistants and phlebotomists, and 10 administrative officers. The laboratory provides a comprehensive 24-hour, high-quality service with rapid turn around times.
In addition to Queensland Health and hospital clinicians, private GPs and specialists are able to access Pathology Queensland Services.
