QHPS (Queensland Health Pathology Service) is the main provider of public sector
pathology services in Queensland. Comprising 33 laboratories, QHPS provides
pathology services to Queensland Health, as well as many other clients including
private medical practitioners, other government departments and various commercial
clients, both within Australia and overseas.
QPHS Townsville is the largest laboratory in Regional Queensland and Northern
Australia. The Laboratory provides a comprehensive 24 hour service with rapid turn
around times, and is a referral centre for many tests in North Queensland.
In addition to Queensland Health Services, private GPs and specialists are welcome to
accessQHPSservices.
Shared or Joint care patients with The Townsville Hospital can be referred to
QHPS to ensure their results are available to both GPs and Hospital staff
electronically on admission or at clinics.
Private outpatients are bulk billed. Request forms suitable for printing or hand writing
are available.

QHPS is a non profit organisation that is committed to ongoing research, education and
training. Enquiries about collaborative research opportunities are welcome.
QHPS Townsville has strong links with JCU including School of Medicine and the
Medical Laboratory Science Degree.
The QHPS private practice trust fund SERTF supports many research, training and
education initiatives, and joint applications for funding are encouraged.
