Podiatry deals with the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. Conditions treated include those arising from bone and joint disorders, neurological problems, circulatory diseases and soft tissue pathologies.
The Podiatrist can diagnose and treat any complication of these which may affect the lower limb. Foot injuries and infections through sport or other activities are also treated, along with common foot conditions such as ulcers, corns, calluses and ingrown toe nails.
Podiatry plays an important role in maintaining the mobility of many elderly and disabled people. “At risk” patients also benefit from education, footwear advice and regular treatment for pedal complications.
