Renal Unit

Overview

The Townsville Hospital Renal Unit provides acute and chronic renal replacement therapy in a variety of settings, including in-centre, satellite and home-based haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, to patients with Renal Failure. The Renal Unit staff also provide regular education and outreach services to community groups, other staff and family members involved in caring for people with renal failure within the THDS.  We service patients from Cardwell in the north, to Sarina in the south, west to the Northern Territory border and up to Doomadgee and Mornington Island.

Haemodialysis Service

   Location  Hours
The Townsville Hospital   First floor, Acute Block, beside cafeteria  ( 11 chairs, 4 shifts) 24 hours on-call. Mon- Sat 7:30am – 9:30pm,  (occasionally this fluctuates to 6.30 – 10.30pm – 6 shifts.
Satellite Haemodialysis Unit  35-38 Gregory Street North Ward (8chairs, 4 shifts)  Mon - Sat 7:30am – 9.30:pm,
Satellite Haemodialysis Unit  Home Hill Hospital (8 chairs, 1 shift )
 Mon, Wed, Fri 7:00am – 5:00pm
Satellite Haemodialysis Unit   Joyce Palmer Medical Centre Palm Island (4 chairs, 1 shift )  Mon, Wed, Fri 7.30am-3.00pm.
Satellite Haemodialysis Unit   Mt Isa Hospital  - ( 8 Chairs 2 shifts)  Mon-Sat 7.30am - 3.00pm


 

Peritoneal Dialysis Service

 Location   The Townsville Hospital, 100 Angus Smith Drive, Douglas QLD 4814 (first floor, acute blok beside Cafetaria)

Mon-Fri. 7.30am-9.30pm

Sat. 7.30 – 4.00pm.  24 hours on call.

Referral procedure for Consultants

Public Appointments via Medical Clinics First Floor ph. Ext. 2513.

Privately through Dr de Jersey’s rooms (ph. +61 7 4779 9244)

Dr de Jersey also does outreach clinics bimonthly at Mackay Base Hospital and Mt Isa Base Hospital. Dr Kan does outreach clincis bemonthly in Mt Isa.
