The Surgical Wards, 1, 2 and 3 are located on the second floor of the Ward block adjacent to the main block, this floor is accessed via a short covered link.
For the convenience of patients and visitors the wards are located on the same levels as their supporting outpatient clinics
Surgical one is a 26-bed in-patient facility providing first class Orthopaedic, Ophthalmology services to clients and patients of the Townsville Health Service District and beyond.

Surgical Ward 2 is the middle of three surgical wards which comprise the surgical floor. It is a 37-bed ward specialising in vascular, urology, colorectal, gynaecology and all aspects of general surgery. We have eight specialty consultants who have weekly allocated theatre times of which four are visiting medical officers.

Surgical Ward 3 is a 20-bed facility with 4 "overcensus" beds specialising in neurosurgical, Neurological, Faciomaxillary and Ear, Nose and Trroag (ENT). It is the only tertiary referral neurosurgery unit outside of Brisbane with all levels of neurosurgery undertaken. The neurosurgery department services a retrieval area the size of NSW stretching between Rockhampton, Mt Isa, the Gulf, Cape York and Papua New Guinea.
Surgical 3 also provides the Surgical Discharge Lounge. The dischage lounge is situated at the western end ofthe Surgical Ward 3 and provides a comopfrtable, supervised lounge that allows patients to wait for their account procexss to be completed. this coordination of the discharge process ensures that aptients/their families/Community Services and the GPs receive all relevant ifnormation and follow-up for all surgical patients.
