The aim of the Coronary Care Unit is to provide holistic care for acute Cardiology patients, utilising a coordinated multi-disciplinary approach, resulting in optimal patient outcomes. This includes the initiation of early intervention as appropriate.

The Coronary Care Unit has 8 beds allocated for acute cardiology patients and 6 beds allocated as procedural beds. These procedural beds cater for patients undergoing procedures in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory, such as Echocardiography, Angiography; Percutaneous Coronary Intervention and Temporary and Permanent pacemake services.
Patients are cared for pre and post procedure, and provided with ongoing education. The acute cardiology beds are for patients suffering from acute and chronic cardiac problems requiring intensive cardiac medical and nursing management. These patients include those stratified as high risk Acute Coronary Syndrome or Myocardial Infarction, and cardiac rhythm disturbances. The unit provides both hardwire and telemetry acute cardiac failure monitoring, and has the facilities for invasive haemodynamic monitoring and intra aortic balloon pacing as required.
