The new state of the art hyperbaric chamber at The Townsville Hospital is the largest purpose built rectangular hyperbaric facility in the Southern Hemisphere. The facility is the only publicly funded unit of this kind in Queensland. It has been installed to meet increasing elective and emergency needs, being the major hyperbaric referral centre for North and West Queensland, the Great Barrier Reef and South Pacific Regions.
The main lock (chamber) is able to treat up to 8 patients per session with 2-3 sessions per day. The emergency lock can be used simultaneously; which allows prompt treatment for emergency patients, without disruption to our planned medial treatments.
