Medical 3 receives its cardiology patients from CCU, other wards or from the Emergency Department. The staff are trained in identifying and treating complex cardiac conditions as well as receiving post procedural patients (ie pacemaker and angiograms patients)

Medical 3 is a cardiac ward designed to meet the needs of patients with cardiac conditions. Our goal is to offer patient care, education and rehabilitation by trained professionals in an effective manner, and in a quiet, caring and safe environment. To achieve and maintain a high standard of nursing, specific specialised skills in cardiac nursing are required. To achieve a professional atmosphere and team unity, we recognise the need for ongoing staff development and education. This is essential for improved patient care. Staff participate in the 'Transition for cardiac nursing' course to enable skills to be developed and enhanced in cardiac nursing. This transition course also allows a 50% credit for the Graduate Certificate in Cardiac Nursing Course at James Cook University.
