Inpatient and outpatient service for the diagnosis, investigation and management of respiratory disorders, respiratory failure and sleep disorders, a public health service for tuberculosis and coordination of Cystic Fibrosis Services at The Townsville Hospital.

Referral Process

Physician Consultation: Contact Respiratory or Sleep Physician on call for urgent inpatient or outpatient referrals. Non-urgent referrals are arranged by mailing or faxing a referral form (obtained from the unit) or referral letter to the unit. Facsimile referrals must be confirmed by telephone or mail.

Bronchoscopy: No direct referrals accepted. Physician consultation required prior to procedure.

Polysomnography (sleep study): No direct referrals accepted. Physician consultation required prior to procedure.

Respiratory Function Investigations: Direct referrals accepted for specified indications. Physician consultation required prior to bronchial provocation challenges and skin sensitivity testing.
